Rena Rena Aquarium Air Pump - Extremely Quiet Aquarium Air Pumps at Linens 'n Things

On November 24, 2011:
I bought a Rena air pump rated to handle up to 150-gallon tank. It's not pumping as much as my old Tetra Whisper rated to handle up to 60-gallon tank. Rena air pump is disappointing. I'm returning it but I must say it's the most quiet pump I've ever seen.

This is my second (bought the second because I liked my first one so much). Now I have one running on my 100 gal. and one running on my 75 gal. Has done a TON better than those junk Tetra ones. It's really easy to set up, and it doesn't fail. I also really like that it has 2 outputs. This gives me some nice options. I run one airstone on each side of my tank typically, so I just run one line from each output to each airstone. It also comes in handy when I do a drip acclimation for the tank. This way I can pull one airstone out of the tank and put it in the bin I do the drip acclimation in so that it stays highly airated, and I still have a lot of airation in the main tank at the same time (very helpful if you order fish online, or have very sensitive fish, that need to be drip acclimated). Pushes a ton of air through my airstones, and keeps my water PLENTY airated for my Haitiensis (they need high temps and high levels of oxygenation to avoid bloat, which is a hard combination to have). Best bang for your buck, and you won't have to replace it in a couple months. If I ever need another pump for a tank, I'll be getting another RENA. Spend the extra $5 and get the RENA. You'll be glad you did.

My Tetra 20Gallon pumped just died on me after only a year so I chose to get a different brand and a stronger one (45Gallon). I made a great decision. This one has an air flow knob which you can adjust the air flow so that's awesome. Definitely recommend.

Amazingly loud and annoying. How can something that small sound like a chainsaw. I returned the first one and the second one was just as loud. I wouldn't recommend Rena.

I returned my Whisper to a local "Pet..." chain because it did not whisper, my husband let me know. I put this Rena in a cardboard box, after some time it moves around to be a little noisy. With some positioning adjustment is is back to being fairly quiet. Note that there is an air filter that is supposed to be replaced monthly. I have this in a 24 inch deep 90 gallon (rated up to 75)and it blasts out plenty of bubbles and splashes water a little.

I purchased the air pump 10 months ago and run it strictly at night. The air pump may buzz/hum until you throttle down the air flow just as an earlier reviewer mentioned. Be very careful of removing the air line from the outlet, the small fitting broke off and I carefully glued it back on. At 10 months standing the air pump will hum/buzz even controlling the flow. Overall it is a bit pricey for initial quiet operation.

Extremely quiet and powerful pump. Plus tune up kit for this pump is cheap!!

On June 5, 2007:
Rena 300 had over 4 months and runs only at night with the lunar lights. Noted that the Rena buzzes periodically when fully opened and when the air flow is throttled back buzzing goes away. Overall simple product just buzzes sometimes.
