Hagen Fluval Vuetech E Series Heater Aquarium Heaters at Linens 'n Things

On April 26, 2013:
The heater is a very attractive design and is well put together. The guard on the bottom keeps fish away from the heat source, but comes apart for cleaning (I haven't tried yet, but it is very solidly connected). I love the digital readout, and I can just glance at the heater to tell how it's doing. It's almost always green, which is not too bright, even at night. When it's blue or red it's more obvious. I've only noticed it go red once, and it was only off by .5 degrees, and it started out blue, since my old heater was dying, and I brought my tank temperature up several degrees. I can't comment on the longevity of the heater, but I certainly hope it lasts a long time.

On April 26, 2013:
This Fluval 300watt is running in a 75G tank and is doing an alright job at keeping the water to almost the set temp. It's still a bit cold here in NY (April), with 30-45 at night and 50-60 during the day so the house has been staying about 65-68. Heater temp is set at 80.5 for the African Cichlids and this heater is working hard to keep it between 78.5 and 79.5. I believe in a month when it's 40-55 at night and 65-85 days it will be able to match the set temp with ease. Come winter though I think I will need to get a 100w or maybe 200w model to help out. The digital temp display is a very nice feature as is the constant temp monitoring with red/blue/green warning lights. Looks quite nice in the tank better than most and provides a good safety net for the fish. In the end if I needed to purchase another I would surely keep this one in the top 3 recommended.

The E seems to be the best heater that I have used so far in 20 some years. The only minus is that they don't seem to put out as much heat as most others.

I live in the Pac NWest, temps vary outside, and I love to leave doors open as often as possible. Even in these conditions the Fluval e series maintains the temperature perfectly. Always a concern that a heater can explode during a water change if one is careless...I researched and found this model to have an auto shutoff at 200*. So, should your heater come loose or is mounted too high in the tank during a water change, it will not break. It will shut off to protect itself. Thank you Fluval for an intelligent design and high quality product.

These heaters work really well. They look great in the tank because they blend in better than the typical metal heaters that you see anywhere else. Setting the temperatures is also very easy. I like that the fish can't touch the heater so there isn't an issue with them getting injured from it. The price was also really good. You won't regret buying these.

Up to this point, I had no idea that regular heaters just turn on and off and do not actually TEST the water before....... turning on or off! I bought this Fluval heater, and my tank is at a constant temperature! Even when my downstairs was 65 F, the tank was still at 80!!! Heater will not turn on when not needed and will turn on when needed! Honestly, spend the money!!!!

This in addition to the original review I submitted on the Fluval E Series Heater that I rated when I only had the heater for 2 days. It is now over a year and this heater is still working flawlessly. I do check often with an instant read thermometer when I change water and this heater is always spot on. They are well worth the money from the experience I have had. It is in a 20 gallon tank. I do unplug it for at least 20 min. before cleaning the tank and leave it off for about 20 min. when the cleaning is complete. I did have to move it a few times in order to get the LF indicator to turn off. I also clean it every time I clean the tank to keep it algae free.

On April 27, 2011:
Since its in my ghost breeding tank (5 or 6 ish gallons) that doesn't need much more heat than room temp, it's difficult to gauge if it's working or not. Since my 200w in my 45 gallon is NOT keeping the temp at 82 I had to put in the old style stealth pro and now my temp is back up. They just sent a replacement so we'll see. I had higher expectations with it's price.

Got one of these for my 20L tank and couldn't be happier. The temp is very accurate, the adjustments are easy to make, and the design is fancy. Even though it is more on the expensive side, it is well worth the money.

I have gone through many aquarium heaters, even though I followed their directions; some had leaks, some tried to cook my fishes, some quit heating. Being sick to death of buying mid-range heaters, that failed, I opted to try this new E heater. I have only had it for two days, however, I put it in the tank, let it sit for 1/2 hr. according to directions, plugged it in, and set it for 79 degrees. The water was already heated from the heater I was removing and this new heater showed 79 degrees on the readout. In the morning, the heater showed 79 degrees and testing with an instant read thermometer, it showed it was indeed at 79 degrees. The heater I removed from the tank was set at 71 degrees, but the actual water temp was 81 degrees in a house with a room temp of 68 to 72 degrees. The calibration was terrible! I have two others by the same company in 5 gallon tanks--the setting is 76 degrees, however, those tanks also had an actual temp of 81. I no longer trust them and have had this problem since installing them in the tanks. The information enclosed says the VueTech E Series cannot be fully submerged, however, calling the Hagen company, I was informed it could be fully submerged in the USA, just not in Canada. Another bit of information on the printed literature says if you want the heater to raise temperatures over 10 degrees (we turn our heat down at night during the Winter months) you need to size up. They are longer in length over most other heaters I have owned, i.e., Hydor Theo. I have a Fluval E100 in a 20 gallon tank. I am rating this heater a "5" just because of it's initial performance and the digital readout is great.
